Books placed on reserve for courses can be found in two different Caltech Library locations. The Geology Library will house some course reserves, while the Sherman Fairchild Library (SFL) will have most of the reserves.
Course reserves typicall check out for 3 hours though there may be some with a longer loan period, at the discretion of the instructor.
There are two types of SFL course reserves; open and closed:
- SFL Open Reserve means the book is located on the 1st floor of SFL and can be browsed in the library. If you would like to use it outside of the library, you can check it out, typically for 3 hours.
- Closed Reserves or SFL Circ Reserves means the books are located behind the SFL circulation desk. These must be checked out to look at them. The loan rule is typically 3 hours.
Course reserves can be highly popular so we ask that you return the book when it is due as other students from the class may need it. Please return the reserve book to the library you checked it out.
