Zotero offers two options for viewing the search bar when you're adding citations to a Word document.

The first (default) option is a thin, red search bar with a field to enter a single line of text:

The second option is a popup window of your full Zotero library called 'Classic View':

To switch to 'Classic View'

  1. Click on the drop down arrow from the default search bar and choose 'Classic View':

To make 'Classic View' stick in Word:

  1. Open Zotero Standalone
  2. Go to Edit > Preferences > Cite > Word Processors
  3. Check the box 'Use Classic Add Citation Dialog.'
