First, set the Quick Copy settings in Zotero Standalone to your desired citation style (Edit > Preferences > Export).

Once you have set your citation style, then:

  • To add an in-text citation, simply select an item in Zotero, hold the Shift key, and drag it into the document.
  • To add a bibliography, simply select items in Zotero and drag them into the document.

If you want to use a different style after you have already dragged citations into your Google document, you will have to start over. For example, if you set your style to 'Chicago' and then want change it to 'Nature,' you will have to delete the 'Chicago' style citations, change your settings to 'Nature' in Zotero Standalone, and then repeat the steps for each citation and your bibliography.
