To find duplicates:

  1. Click on 'Duplicate Items' under 'My Library.'
    1. This displays items Zotero thinks are duplicates in the center panel.Screenshot of duplicate items folder in Zotero.
  2. If the items are not duplicates, no action is required.

To fix duplicates:

  1. Follow Step 1 above.
  2. If the items are duplicates, choose the version of the item to use as the master and then you have two choices:
    1. Simply choose a master and click "Merge [#] items"
    2. Choose a master, review the metadata and "select fields to keep from other versions of the item," and then click "Merge [#] items"

Zotero currently uses the title, DOI, and ISBN fields to determine duplicates. Go to Zotero's documentation on duplicates for detailed instructions.
